Must See Movies - Before the Oscars

In case you all didn't know, I love books, movies and TV. Any of it. All of it. It makes complete sense then that I subscribe to Entertainment Weekly. This past week's issue listed the 25 movies you need to see before Oscar night. Here they are!

1. The Artist
I haven't seen this yet. Plan to do so this weekend. Or My Week with Marilyn. Which one?

2. The Descendants
On my "to-see" list.

3. War Horse

4. The Help - X
Loved the book. Loved the movie too!

5. Hugo

6. Midnight in Paris

7. Moneyball
I read the book back in the day. Have not yet seen the movie. I think that may be a good one for this weekend!

8. The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo - X
Saw this over the holidays. Liked it, but didn't love it. Loved the books. They did a great job telling the story though. Mara Rooney was a fantastic Lisbeth. My friend said she thought maybe it was Daniel Craig who didn't sell it as Blomkvist. Perhaps!

9. Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close (Goes wide Jan 20)
I haven't read the best reviews, but I want to see this anyway. I heard that Sandra Bullock gives an amazing performance.

10. The Tree of Life

11. Beginners

12. Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows, Part 2 - X
It's Harry Potter. Of course I saw it!

13. The Iron Lady

14. Rango
I have a feeling we'll be seeing this soon. The hubs wanted to see it in the theater and we just never made it.

15. My Week with Marilyn
So, do we see this or The Artist?

16. Shame

17. Albert Nobbs

18. The Ides of March
I wanted to see this when it was out, but it's another one we never made it to see in the theater.

19. Kung Fu Panda 2

20. Bridesmaids - X
If you have not seen this yet, you are seriously missing out!

21. J. Edgar
I have ZERO interest in this movie.

22. We Need to Talk About Kevin

23. Drive
OMG. I can't believe I haven't seen this yet. Apparently the hubs and I were busy when a few of these movies were out!

24. Young Adult
I love me some Charlize.

25. Paradise Lost 3: Purgatory
This doc premiers on HBO on 1/12. I think I need to record it.

So, how many of these have you seen? And how many do you plan to see before Oscar night? Do tell!

I've only seen Bridesmaids, Moneyball, and The Help - I really liked all of them. Brad looks pretty good in Moneyball ;) Can't wait to see The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo!

I'm so glad you posted this list! I have SO many movies to catch up on. Last year my husband and I did a Oscar movie marathon, 3 movies on Saturday and 3 movies on Sunday in the theater. It was so much fun. We need to do that again!

Not on the list, but ONE DAY is another book-made-into-movie. I didn't read the book, but I saw the movie and I cried for days (literally). Very good... if you're looking for something sappy.

I get Entertainment Weekly too! It’s my life’s guide. Hahaha. I’ve only seen nine! I love seeing them all before the Oscars too. I hope I can catch up.

I HATED the Tree of LIfe! It was such a waste of my time. Loved the Help - she looks so great on the cover! Loved The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, a lot, but I haven't seen the previous version, either. Moneyball is on our queue and am adding a lot of the others!

EW is a way of life for me...sadly! It's a great way to keep up with entertainment and I'm happy to say that I've at least seen more than half of those movies. I have to say, that Drive overall was my favorite movie last year and I really hope it gets recognition this year at the award ceremonies. Plus it doesn't hurt that Ryan Gosling's in it...I love me some Ryan!

Mel, you're killing me. I suddenly feel overwhelmed that I need to see these all pronto. But if it's worth anything...Marilyn first for sure!

Just a head's-up on We Need To Talk About Kevin--one of the absolutely worst books I have ever read. Truly. I don't know if it can be redeemed--and I think Tilda Swinton is great, but she has her work cut out for her.

I've been lax on movies. Saw The Help and am catching up on some via PPV.

I want to see so many of these! I've seen even less than you have - the same movies, but I haven't seen The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo yet. I'm going to get Moneyball from Netflix or Redbox soon, since it' just came out on video. And Descendents is #1 on my must see list in the theater. I'd really like to see it before the Oscars.

I've seen The Help, Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Midnight in Paris (my hubby hated it!), Harry Potter and Bridesmaids - I definitely need more on the list!

We loooooooved Bridesmaids and The Help. We just watched Midnight in Paris and enjoyed it. It's different and makes you think but isn't too heavy - a fun flick!

Funny! I just added this to my "Book of Lists" I keep in my work bag. I have seen five of them, but have most of the rest on my list to see. The Artist has been on my list since I first hear about it; think I'll go this weekend.
