Well folks, I have Symphysis Pubic Dysfunction. That sounds lovely doesn't it? It hurts like a mother f*c&er. I'm not gonna lie.
Do you know what it is? Do you even want to? It's pain or discomfort in the pelvic region caused by the hormone relaxin that allows your pelvis to relax and separate for childbirth. Most pain is centred on the joint at the front of the pelvis. Or as I like to say - My freaking crotch hurts!
I notice it the most when I try to put on my pants in the morning, when I sit for too long at my desk and forget to get up and walk around every hour or after I commute sitting on the bus. When I first stand up, it's pretty severe pain and I waddle until it slightly subsides.
Called my doc. Want to know the cure? Yeah, that's right. Delivery! Guess I'm going to have to suffer though this for a bit longer.
Options to ease the discomfort? Take some Tylenol. (Which I don't do because I feel like Tylenol is a waste and does absolutely nothing for pain.) Take a bath. Use a heat pad. And if the pain gets to be unbearable, (seriously, what's the definition of unbearable? I don't think I'm there yet or will ever be there.) I can go to physical therapy.
I did try the heat pad last night while catching up on TV. That helped some. What about during the day though? It's not like I can sit at work with one of those hot/cold gel packs between my legs, can I? That would be really weird. I'm thinking of stopping my boss' office to tell him (yep, he's a dude) my crotch hurts so badly that I need to start working from home a couple days a week. Pretty sure that would scare him enough to say yes, right?
Have any of you other mamas out there experienced this? I know it doesn't happen to everyone. And if it didn't happen to you, consider yourself lucky! But, I just keep thinking that if this is the only thing I've got going on to complain about right now, I should just shut the heck up!

As if labor wasn't enough...
I didn't have it but I recommend finding a chiropractor who specializes in prenatal care. I was going to the chiro at the end of my pregnancy and other preggos were always coming in with pubic pain and she seemed to be able to help them!
Good luck! So many aches and pains crop up there at the end!
I am so sorry - I know it's not funny but this kind of made me laugh because there is just so much nonsense us women go through to get these cute babies into the world!
i know this isn't funny, but thanks for the laugh. hey mel, what are you up to? "oh just heating up my crotch." what are are you doing after work today? "oh just going to get some therapy for my crotch." the joys of motherhood.
i didn't have this, but can sympathize with your pain. i had terrible SI joint pain during the last 10 weeks of my pregnancy. i recommend physical therapy! not only did my therapist get my pain to go away, but i got to lie down on a table and get a 20 minute massage twice a week - heaven during the 3rd trimester :) good luck!
I agree with Jeesica. I had this condition and went to see a pregnancy chiropractor. Her name is Dr. Anne. Her office is on Michigan Ave. and works with all types of salaries and insurance. After one treatment and one physical therapy appt. with her I felt 80% better. within a week I was back to good. Good luck!
whoops I forgot to include the drs last name. Her name is Anne Gordon. I highly recommend her. Also I read seeing a chiro when pregnancy can help in an eaiser birth due to alignment etc. I had a super easy labor and pused for only 20 min. Not sure if its related but...its worth a try. None the less you wont have this horrible pain until labor.
OMG!! I've been so out of the loop! Congrats!!! On the baby, not the crotch pain. That sounds miserable.
How exciting!!
Ladies, thanks for the chiro info! I will definitely look into it. Although, my pain seems to have subsided this week. Maybe the rest of my body is catching up. Now I just pee a lot! ;)
